TikTok ‘prankster’ arrested after sharing video of himself spraying harmful bug killer pesticide on food inside Walmart

An Arizona social media influencer who calls himself a “supreme villain” is facing serious charges after allegedly spraying bed bug killer on groceries at a Walmart in Mesa.

Charles Smith, 27, was arrested after filming the act as part of a prank video for his TikTok channel, where he has more than 300,000 followers under the username @WolfieKahletti.

The incident occurred around 8:30PM on December 19 at the megastore located southeast of Phoenix.

In the since-deleted video, Smith can be seen wearing a black hoodie and pink bandana as he sprays Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug and Flea Killer on fresh produce including bananas, acorn squash, potatoes, lemons, green apples, and Roma tomatoes.

Despite being removed from his TikTok and Instagram page, the video was later shared to other social media platforms like Reddit.

According to Mesa police, Smith intentionally targeted the store to create content for his TikTok account, where he reportedly earns between $6,000 and $10,000 per month from his controversial prank videos, the New York Post reports.

“This incident underscores the potential dangers of reckless actions disguised as social media pranks,” the Mesa Police Department said in a statement.

Shoppers expressed outrage at the influencer’s behavior. “I think social media has got people doing crazy things out here,” Walmart customer Xavier Griego told AZ Family. “It’s unfortunate that somebody would mess up their whole life, potentially, for something on social media for views.”

The pesticide Smith used is considered toxic if ingested. According to Hot Shot’s website, the spray is “harmful if swallowed” and can cause allergic reactions with prolonged or frequent skin contact.

Smith turned himself in to police on December 21 and now faces a felony charge of introducing poison, along with three misdemeanor charges for criminal damage, endangerment, and theft.

A spokesperson for Walmart confirmed that the affected items were removed, and the area was thoroughly cleaned. It remains unclear if any customers consumed the contaminated items.

Suspects convicted of tampering with consumer products face serious consequences. If convicted, Smith could be sentenced to between five and 20 years in prison.

Smith is no stranger to controversy. Other videos on his TikTok account show him mixing bacon and eggs into a stranger’s laundry and locking people inside a grocery store using a bungee cord.

His videos often amass hundreds of thousands – if not, millions – of views.

This particular case echoes a similar Arizona incident in 2022, when David Lohr was sentenced to probation after adding harmful chemicals to food at multiple Phoenix-area stores. Although no injuries were reported, Lohr was later convicted of tampering with products in California and sentenced to nearly five years in prison.

Smith remains in custody as he awaits further legal proceedings.
