With Christmas just a week away, many are indulging in festive, family-friendly films, while others prefer a more thrilling viewing experience.

One TV show that many have been binge-watching is called La Palma, a Norwegian four-part drama.

The series stars Anders Baasmo Christiansen, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Alma Günther, Bernard Storm Lager, Thea Sofie Loch Næss, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Jorge de Juan.

According to the synopsis, the Kasper Barfoed-directed show “follows a group of geological researchers and a family of four confronting a potential ecological crisis” on the Spanish island, which is off the coast of Africa.

One of the scientists discovered “alarming signs about the volcano located in the center of the holiday paradise,” cited by The Mirror.

“She must convince her colleagues that the worst-case scenario is about to happen. If the volcano erupts, a mountain mass the size of Manhattan might erupt into the sea and cause the largest tsunami the world has ever seen,” it continued. “Will the family manage to escape the disaster of ash, gas, and lava in a fight for their lives?”

The series was released on the streaming service on December 12 and has already exploded onto Netflix’s Top 10 TV show charts.

It became the most-watched non-English show, garnering 40,200,000 viewing hours, proving that it has been well-received by viewers all over the world.

“I just watched La Palma on Netflix and it was really good,” one user gushed, while another gave it a “10/10” rating.

“I just binge watched La Palma on Netflix. That was insane,” a third commented. “I watched all of La Palma on Netflix yesterday cuz it was pretty entertaining,” a fourth added.

Despite the rave reviews on social media, La Palma has not gone down well on Rotten Tomatoes, earning a poor 33% rating. It has also been given a 6.3/10 score on IMDb.

One critic wrote that the four-part series “is enjoyable and binge-watch-worthy, making us watch a terrifying reality in an engaging way”.

Another reviewer said the “character development is uneven and there are some unbelievable plot conveniences” but added that the “stunning visuals, palpable moral dilemmas, and family dynamics work to offset the shortcomings so this isn’t a full-on storytelling disaster”.

La Palma is available to stream now on Netflix.

Everyone has their favorite, but there are some that sit solidly at the top each year.

Home Alone would also be a pretty short film if Kevin’s parents were a bit more diligent with checking on their children.

For those unfamiliar with the plot – a rare group, no doubt – the film follows Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, an eight-year-old accidentally left behind when his family departs for their Christmas vacation.

While home alone, Kevin must defend his house from two bumbling burglars using an ingenious array of traps and pranks.

But there’s a subtle detail early in the movie that reveals exactly how Kevin ended up being left behind – a detail many viewers miss on their first watch.

The chaos begins the morning of the flight when a power outage resets the McCallister family’s alarm clocks. In the mad rush to make their flight, the family mistakenly counts a neighbor’s child as part of their group, leaving Kevin unnoticed at home.

Yet this explanation leaves one glaring question: how could his parents not realize Kevin was missing when handing over plane tickets at the airport?

The answer lies in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment the night before.

During dinner, Kevin and his brother Buzz have an argument that leads to spilled milk – and a mess of passports and plane tickets.

As the family scrambles to clean up, Kevin’s father unwittingly throws Kevin’s ticket into the trash, hidden among red napkins.

The camera briefly focuses on the discarded ticket, labeled with Kevin’s name, before it’s covered up and forgotten.

It’s a small but crucial detail that explains how the McCallisters missed having an extra ticket at the gate.

Even decades after the movie’s release, some fans are still uncovering this hidden detail. Social media has reignited the discussion, with Twitter users expressing surprise at the revelation.

“Okay this is crazy lol and I’m sure people have found this Easter egg many times, but for me I just realized that in Home Alone, Kevin’s dad accidentally threw away Kevin’s plane ticket. Which explains how they didn’t realize anyone was missing handing out tickets at the gate,” one user wrote.

Another fan connected this discovery to a moment in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), where Kevin makes it onto a plane with his ticket in hand – only to end up in the wrong city.

TikTok creator Geoffrey Lyons recently went viral for crunching the numbers on Kevin’s iconic haul. Let’s revisit what Kevin purchased:

Last year, fans celebrated another milestone for the film when Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The global superstar lit up the red carpet last night at the world premiere of Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King, but it was her 12-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, who truly stole the show.

In the live-action prequel, Blue lends her voice to Kiara, the daughter of Beyoncé’s iconic character, Nala, and Donald Glover’s Simba.

Following the event, Beyoncé took to Instagram to post a rare and touching tribute to her eldest daughter. Alongside photos of Blue Ivy dazzling on the red carpet in a gilded gold ball gown, Beyoncé showered her with praise.

“My gorgeous baby girl. This is your night,” the ‘Single Ladies’ singer wrote. “You worked hard and you did such a beautiful job as the voice of Kiara. Your family could not be prouder. Keep shining.”

Blue’s beautiful gown, featuring a strapless draped bodice and a voluminous skirt, made her look every bit the star she’s becoming.

Of course, Jay-Z’s appearance also comes just days after he released a statement in response to a lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old girl alongside rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs.

In his statement, he referred to the toll the allegations were going to have on his family, saying: “My wife and I will have to sit our children down, one of whom is at the age where her friends will surely see the press and ask questions about the nature of these claims, and explain the cruelty and greed of people.”

Blue Ivy’s red-carpet moment marks yet another milestone for the young talent, who’s already a Grammy winner and now adding voice acting to her impressive résumé. With Beyoncé’s loving support and a growing list of achievements, it’s clear the sky’s the limit for Blue.
